My Big Blonde
Wild Ducks cannot be tamed
Or so they say. I tamed this one though After many a day.
He was my friend Trusted and true. But just the same I
lost him too!
Such a special drake
He never gave a jot. His cheeky but friendly ways Worth such a lot.
His funny whistle Gave much pleasure to all. His upright body Sleek and tall.
Now he's gone No more whistles for bread.
Whistling in heaven Now instead.
Big Blonde Whistling duck That was his name.
Life without him Just won't be the same.

I have two big passions in my life, my two beautiful labrador dogs Poppy and Bobby and my collection of wonderful Water Fowl. The Big Blonde Fulvous Whistling duck was such a character. He was also the only one I have so far managed to tame. He would run towards me whistling if I appeared with a wet slice of bread. The song playing is one that makes me think of him everytime I hear it. This song was very popular a few years ago and I loved it. I played it over and over again during the summer months whilst I spent my time in the garden with my dogs and ducks. I sometimes felt the Big Blonde was whistling along with the tune.
Kaye
Kaye now has two beautiful whistler ducks in her group and the drake I have claimed and named him Jake. I love to watch him as he struts around and tells everyone he is "big boss". I even now have a wooden replica of Jake sitting on my desk. This was a much appreciated Christmas gift from Kaye's husband Roy. I also named the female Judy. On the top picture to the right of the pond you will see my very own precious "Betty's Duckling" a present to me from Kaye
