Nelson, South Wales

South Wales is a country
Steeped in natural beauty and history
It's many closed coal mines
Still remain surrounded by mystery

Meet Frank Rawle and his family
His three children and his wife.
He lived in Nelson, Mid Glamorgan
And was a coal miner all his life.

Frank's daughter Elizabeth
Was my husband's mother.
And little Frank junior
Was Elizabeth's younger brother.

Then there was Bill
He was Frank's youngest son.
Being the baby of the Rawle family
Bill was spoilt by everyone.

They lived in a terraced house
In a street named Long Row
Which led up to Wimberry Mountain
Where the local kids would go.

My husband often went to visit
It's where he spent all his holidays.
Now their little house is pulled down
In the name of progress...
Motorways.

My husband Roy's family home was in a tiny Welsh town
called "Nelson" in Mid Glamorgan.
They lived in a little house in a street named Long Row.
Roy spent much of his childhood there
and also attended the local school for a while.
His main play area was Wimberry Mountain a lovely
area way above Long Row.
We both love Wales and have returned many times.
We even took our dear friend Betty there on
her very first visit to England.
She loved it too.
